UC’s online Master of Counselling equips you to guide the way with experience and respect, while ensuring that you feel supported throughout your study journey. The course encompasses 12 units, where you will gain job-ready skills relevant to industry and have the opportunity to undertake placement.

What you will study

The Master of Counselling will provide you with many opportunities to learn the factors that influence cultural diversity and to use the skills you learn throughout the course in various experiential settings.

Course structure

The Master of Counselling comprises 12 units. It also includes 2 nested qualifications, with a Graduate Certificate in Counselling and Graduate Diploma in Counselling. The graduate diploma and the graduate certificate are both entry and exit points for the course.

Graduate Certificate in Counselling |
4 units | 8 months*

Gain the foundations in counselling with a Graduate Certificate in Counselling and graduate in as little as 8 months.

Graduate Diploma in Counselling |
8 units | 16 months*

Build on the foundational units plus undertake 1 placement unit at an approved counselling agency to complete the Graduate Diploma in Counselling.

Master of
Counselling |
12 units | 2 years*

Complete all 12 units, including 2 placement units at an approved counselling agency to graduate with a master’s degree.

*Maximum 5 years from date of enrolment to date of course completion. The duration is dependent on individual study path and placement requirements. Please speak to a Student Adviser for more information.
