Save on your fees with a CSP
If you’re eligible, you can apply for a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP), which comes with an Australian Government subsidy that makes postgraduate study more affordable.
Even better, it’s not a loan – you pay your smaller student contribution amount and never have to repay the government contribution.
You may also be able to apply to reduce your upfront costs even further by deferring your contribution amount through HECS-HELP.
CSPs are limited and available to eligible students who enrol and begin their studies in 2026.

FAQs
Eligibility depends on your citizenship or residency status and the requirements of your chosen course. If your course is listed here, you may be eligible for a CSP.
Being eligible does not necessarily mean you will be offered a CSP. Places are limited and can be competitive, and the usual academic entry requirements for the course apply.
As a CSP student, you only pay the student contribution after the government subsidy is applied. The balance of your fees may be eligible for a HECS-HELP loan, which means repayments can be deferred until you reach the compulsory payment threshold.
CSPs for postgraduate courses are limited and being eligible doesn’t guarantee a place. Your application will be assessed according to academic performance, previous study and relevant work experience.
Unlike a CSP, a Graduate Australian Fee Place, also known as a Domestic Fee-paying Place (DFP), is not subsidised by the government. Full fee-paying students do not receive a subsidy and are responsible for covering the whole cost of their course. They may be eligible to defer payment via FEE-HELP.
No. A CSP is a university place that’s subsidised by the government. The remaining balance, your student contribution, may be covered by HECS-HELP. HECS‑HELP is an optional loan to defer your student contribution, which you repay through the tax system once you meet the minimum repayment threshold.
You’ll apply for a CSP through your university – that’s us – via an electronic Assistance Form (eCAF). This form will be provided to you via myUC when you accept your offer, as part of your enrolment. Your eCAF will also ask how you want to repay your student contribution amount. This is where you can nominate to use a HECS-HELP loan to cover the balance of your fees.
